Davis Peach Project Competition (undergraduate)

The highest mission of a science is its applications to answer questions with social impact.  I would like to see computer science undergraduate students to take on this challenge to design a proposal which will address the question of peace using programmable tools.

Dear Hood Faculty,

I am pleased to announce that Hood College will again compete in the Davis Peace Project competition.  Hood undergraduate students are invited to design a “project for peace” and to compete for a Davis Peace Prize.  Winning submissions will be funded at $10,000 each and the project must be completed during the summer of 2014.  These projects are designed to facilitate young adults to consider, develop, and institute ways of building peace in the 21stcentury.

Davis projects for peace are made possible by Kathryn Davis, an accomplished internationalist and mother of Shelby M. C. Davis who funds the Davis United World College Scholars Program. Hood College is a United World College partner school.

Please encourage your students to consider this opportunity to transform their visions into a realistic plan.

For students planning to compete for a Davis Peace Prize, a one page statement (pre-proposal) describing what they plan to do and where (the location), how the project relates to their major, the significance of the project, and how this project might relate to future plans is due on November 22, 2013.  In this proposal, students must indicate a faculty advisor who is willing to assist the student in this process.  The pre-proposal will be submitted to the Hood College Davis Peace Prize Committee by sending an attachment to provost@hood.edu.

On February 3, 2014, the final proposal is due.  The final proposal must capture the proposed project concisely in two pages of narrative and a one page budget sheet. The final proposal will be submitted to the Hood College Davis Peace Prize Committee by sending an attachment of the final proposal to provost@hood.edu.

Attached to this email is information that should answer many of your questions.   If you have additional questions, please contact either:

Dr. Donald Wright at wright@hood.edu (member of the Hood College Davis Peace Prize Committee)

Ms. Kate Emory at emoryk@hood.edu (Hood’s official contact for the Davis Peace Prize)

Sincerely,

Kate Conway-Turner
Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs
